Digging emotions over time

This year MakeDox celebrates 15 years! It is no coincidence that we are dedicating this anniversary edition to the film archives, to that precious heritage that has the power, like pretty much nothing else, to turn us into time travelers. It is so precious that it is enough to just open our eyes and get goosebumps, to prick up our ears and feel the tears coming, or to push our hands deep inside as if it were a sack of wheat and wish to create something new with it. 

To recreate memories, to tell the stories differently – so to understand better. But also to understand ourselves, without fear that nostalgia might take over – an emotion so complex but also healing – and ready to feel hope and urge for change.

The archives are the foundation, but we’ll get nowhere without emotions. They both are an inexhaustible resource of creativity – what kind of stories we’d crave to tell, would depend solely on us. But at least now we know where we should dig if we want to live wide awake while being here, in order to feel deeply and to leave something valuable – for ourselves and for those who come after us.
