With government subsidies, the airlines Lufthansa and Wizz Air will introduce new routes from Skopje to Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Stuttgart, Salzburg and Ljubljana, the Government announced today.
From April 23, Lufthansa will fly ten times a week from Skopje to Frankfurt, and Wizz Air will fly three times a week to Luxembourg, Stuttgart, Salzburg, and Ljubljana from November 1, 2023.
The financial support for the companies amounts to seven euros in denar equivalent per departing passenger transported from Skopje International Airport.
The contracts with the airlines will last for three years, and 5 million euros have been allocated from the budget for this purpose.
According to the Government, the introduced new destinations are those for which there was great interest from the citizens.
"Companies will have to maintain these lines for three years from the day of signing the contract, otherwise they will have to return the money they received as subsidies", Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski said.
Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski indicated that with the opening of 5 new destinations from the Skopje International Airport, the number of destinations that will operate from the Skopje airport increases to 46.
"The Government's policies are aimed at developing the air traffic in the country, ensuring quality development of civil aviation, as well as establishing competitive prices and new destinations for our citizens, as well as attracting tourists from all over Europe and beyond", Kovachevski added.
