Skopje, July 17 — Between 40 and 50 buses are currently needed by the Skopje public transport company to adequately maintain operations during the summer period.
This statement was made yesterday by the company's director, Dragi Kushovski, during a session of the Skopje City Council.
He noted that currently, 190 to 200 buses are in operation, whereas the winter and summer schedules were planned for around 350 buses.
"Starting from September, when the winter schedule begins, the situation will become even more challenging as the number of buses required increases. Even if no buses break down, we will face a shortage of 100 buses," Kushovski said.
During yesterday's session, one of the agenda items was a proposal to purchase new eco-friendly buses. However, the proposal did not pass.
The proposal to purchase new eco-friendly buses has appeared on the agenda of Skopje City Council sessions for 21 times in recent years.
Public transport has recently faced significant criticism due to frequent delays and issues with the air conditioning on some buses.
