Skopje, March 25 — Mirko Popov, one of the pioneers of the Macedonian electronic music scene and one of the most influential and successful DJs, musicians, composers, songwriters, publishers and producers from Skopje, died yesterday (March 24th) at the age of 51.


Popov was hospitalized at the Clinical Center in Skopje for several days after suffering a stroke.


Popov was born in Skopje in 1972. He got his first professional engagement as a DJ in 1992, the same year he joined the iconic Skopje music radio station Kanal 103, which is one of the key moments in his development as a person and musician. From 2008 to 2010 he was the editor-in-chief of Kanal 103.


In 1998, Popov founded the independent record label PMG Recordings, which today has over 300 releases to its credit. Popov has played several roles in theater performances and is the author of several musical works for theater and film.


Social media was flooded with messages of condolences from his colleagues, friends, and fans yesterday.
