Several mayors from the Skopje municipalities are looking for ways to deal with the accumulated garbage throughout Skopje.
This step comes after employees of the public utility Komunalna higiena stopped collecting garbage from households on Friday evening, following the announced dismissal of dozens of employees, and also demanding better working conditions.
The mayor of the Municipality of Centar, Goran Gerasimovski, announced that the municipality will clean and collect the garbage on its own, starting early in the morning, on Monday.
The mayor of Butel Municipality, Darko Kostovski, announced that he asked for help from the Municipality of Veles for mechanization and manpower and that tonight they will start an action to clean up the accumulated garbage.
A similar step was taken by the mayor of the Aerodrom Municipality, Timcho Mucunski, who asked for help from the mayor of the Municipality of Shtip.
The mayor of Kisela Voda and president of the Association of the units of local self-government, Orce Gjorgjievski announced that tomorrow they will propose to the Council of the City of Skopje the abolition of the public utility Komunalna higiena, and thus that each municipality should open its utility enterprise.
